Sarah Thompson
Senior Individual and Couple Psychotherapist (MBACP)
Psychosexual Therapist (COSRT)
I am an experienced therapist who has worked with couples and individuals for over 16 years. I initially trained in couple and individual psychodynamic psychotherapy, followed by an MSc in Psychosexual Therapy, both at Tavistock Relationships in London. Alongside my private practice, I teach on the Psychosexual Diploma at Tavistock Relationships, and have previously worked in the NHS as an Honorary Psychosexual Therapist at Croydon University Hospital.
My approach combines psychodynamic psychotherapy with behavioural interventions where appropriate. In psychosexual work, I don’t treat sexual difficulties simply as problems to be fixed, but as experiences that may carry meaning, and that often communicate something important about the emotional life of the individual or couple — understanding that meaning can be where real change begins.
I offer sessions in-person in central London, and also online.
Areas I commonly work with:
- Anxiety, shame & distress around sex
- Arousal & orgasm difficulties
- Betrayal & trust issues
- Communication difficulties
- Desire/libido concerns & differences
- Feelings of ‘stuckness’
- Fertility issues
- Painful sex
- Problematic use of pornography
- Sex in religious/cultural contexts
- Sexual trauma
