Should We Break Up or Try Couples Therapy?
At some point, couples can find themselves asking a question they never imagined asking: is the relationship over, or is it still worth fighting for?
Sometimes it follows a rupture - a betrayal, a loss of trust, something that is hard to come back from. You might find yourselves constantly bickering, or unable to move past what has happened. But at other times, it’s quieter than that. Meaningful conversations become less frequent, and while you might still be getting on with day-to-day life, working well as partners, something just feels off.
Deciding whether to come to therapy can feel like a big step. It can be a commitment of time and money, so finding the right fit matters.
Couples therapy offers a space to slow things down and reflect on what has been happening between you.
Couple therapists are trained to help identify patterns you may have fallen into. These are often not entirely new. Relationships can stir responses that have been there for much longer, without you fully realising it. As Carl Jung wrote: 'Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.'
Seeing the relationship through a new lens can help some couples find their way back to each other or help them separate in a more thoughtful way.
If you find yourself here, it can help to have a safe place to think it through. At Central London Relationship Therapy, we offer a confidential space to explore your relationship at a pace that feels manageable.
