Angela Marks
Individual and Couple Psychotherapist (MBACP)
It is my belief that the capacity to form and sustain healthy relationships is central to our happiness and our sense of wellbeing. All relationships have their ups and downs but sometimes things can become overwhelming or unmanageable: communication has broken down, a stalemate has been reached or you find you are leading largely separate lives – all painful states to be in.
I provide a safe, confidential & non-judgmental space in which my clients can begin to make sense of what’s going on, to start talking again in more constructive ways, leading to a deeper understanding of themselves & the other and, in turn, a more enriched and trusting relationship.
I am a Tavistock trained psychodynamic psychotherapist and have a wealth of experience working with couples and individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds both in my private practice and previously, as a senior clinician at Tavistock Relationships (TR) I did my initial training at the WPF, graduating in 1999. Some years later, once my own children had started school, I became more intrigued by our differing connections with others, what drives our choices, what constitutes a satisfying couple relationship & how powerfully influenced children are by their parental couple. This is what led me to TR & their specialised training to work with couples.
Prior to working as a therapist, I was an actress. During that chapter of my life, I also volunteered for the Samaritans which provided the springboard to explore what it would involve to become a fully fledged therapist. I came to see that the skills required to be an actor and a therapist are linked: sensitivity, reciprocity & a deep understanding of human behaviour & relationships are at their very core
